Mitchell County, NC - J.M. Francis II Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~ J.M. Francis II Cemetery Location: Mitchell Co, Buladean, NC., on Tom Creek, off Highway 226 Accessibility: Difficult. One can only walk to this cemetery and is overgrown, up a hill and hard to get to. 1. J.M. Francis Nov. 15, 1858 - March 18, 1920 (Note: This is John Millard Francis II son of J.M. Francis I and the father of Glen, George, Johnny, Thomas & Lizzie, Hester, Alice, Lydia and Bertha) (Note: There is a mason symbol on his headmarker) (Reads): "My dear children meet me in heaven." 2. (Wife) Rebecca Francis Oct. 4, 1860 - Feb. 26, 1946 (Note: She is the daughter of Thomas Street II & Mary P. Garland and sister to Garrett, Lydia, Elisha, John M, Milbern, Gutridge L, Phebe and Buanvistia) 3. Bertha Francis daughter of J.M. & Rebecca Francis Dec. 28, 1903-Nov. 2, 1915 (Note: Died when a lantern caught her dress on fire at age 12. There is a family picture of her parents and 4 older sisters and 4 brothers made the day of her burial) 4. Fient Bennett (no dates, half brother to Mary, daughter of Vian Arrowood) 5. Norey Freeman (no dates, half sister to Mary Glen's wife, daughter of Vian Arrowood 6. Sid Melton (no dates, half sister to Glen's wife Mary, son of Vine Arrwood) 7. John Arrowood May 15, 1888 - April 8, 1936 (May be the husband of Vine Arrowood 8. Lissie Murphy July 28, 1886 - April 31, 1964 9. Hettie Murphy (married to Clifford Buchanan, children Woodrow, Nat, Howard & Bessie) 10. Matthew Francis, stillborn infant son, born May 28, 1918, (Infant of Glen Francis - marked with a plain slab of rock) In 2006 the JM Francis I. house is still standing and the cemetery is on the hill behind it. The location of the cemetery cannot be seen from the road. (Notes made by Linda Francis, Summer of 1972.
