Mitchell County, NC - John Gouge Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JOHN GOUGE CEMETERY (POPLAR) LOCATION: From the point at which Route 197 leaves the Toe River between Huntdale and Relief, drive north 1.2 miles. Turn left onto a dirt road just beyond an abandoned house. At the same time you will see a residence address sign that says "9154" directly across the road from the cemetery access road. The cemetery is a few hundred yards up the dirt road; it is visible up on the hill while you are still on 197. The Hughes Cemetery is also visible from the access road, although the road does not go to the gate. ACCESSIBILITY: Moderate.
