Mitchell County, NC - Hughes Cemetery at Poplar

HUGHES CEMETERY near the BAILEY SETTLEMENT (POPLAR)

LOCATION: From the point at which 197 N leaves the Toe River, between 
Huntdale and Pigeon Roost Creek, drive north on 197 for 1.2 miles, 
turning left immediately beyond an unpainted abandoned house.  There 
is no road to the cemetery, so park in the grassy area above the large 
right curve of the road (above the house).  You will see the cemetery 
up the hill as you get out of your vehicle.  Walk (climb) up to it; 
there is a gate through the fence on the left hand side of the cemetery.

ACCESSIBILITY:   Very difficult.  As said above, there is no access road, 
at least that I saw.  To climb up the hill would not be easy for anyone 
who is not fairly fit.

CONDITION: Good.
