Adams Mrs. Mary "Carolyn" Masters Adams, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2007. She was 66. Born in Mitchell County, N.C., she spent her childhood in Erwin, Tenn. Carolyn was the daughter of Edna Sparks Masters and the late John Leo Masters of Erwin. She has one surviving brother, Johnny L. Masters, also of Erwin. She was the daughter-in-law and sister-in-law of the late Jimmy and Amilee Adams and Betty Lou Tilson, all of Erwin. In January of 1959, Carolyn married Dr. Richard Adams; they have spent their 48 years together pastoring and serving their Lord Jesus Christ in ministry. They began their ministry in Kannapolis, N.C., at the Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church. Their second ministry was at the East Side Free Will Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn., where they served for 20 years. For the past 17 years they have worked for Free Will Baptist Home Missions in Nashville, Tenn., where she was an Administrative Assistant, and Richard is the Director of Development. Carolyn was a talented singer who traveled with her husband as they ministered for the Free Will Baptist denomination. She loved to sing and used her talent to serve the Lord and was a blessing to many people. She was a member of the Woodbine Free Will Baptist Church, Nashville. Carolyn and Richard had two children, the late James Mark Adams, formerly of Elizabethton, and Bethany Adams Walser. Bethany is married to Randal Steven Walser of Elizabethton, and they have one child, Alana Karel Walser. They reside in Nashville. Mrs. Adams also had a special sister-in-law, Willa Dean Early of Erwin, and two special nieces, LuAnne Powers of Unicoi, who is married to James Powers, and Sydney Paige Masters of Erwin. A memorial service was held at the Woodbine Free Will Baptist Church on Monday, November 12, at 7 p.m. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Pastor Tim York, Rev. Larry Powell, Rev. David Crowe and Rev. Richard Atwood conducted the service. A funeral service will be held at the East Side Free Will Baptist Church in Elizabethton on Wednesday, November 14, at 7 p.m. Friends will be received at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Rev. Larry Powell, Rev. Howard Messer, Rev. Eddie Young, Rev. Harold Blankenship and LuAnne Powers will officiate. Final interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin on Thursday, November 15, at 10 a.m. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Thursday. Active pallbearers are Brian Crowe, Alan Walser, Jeff Carr, Jason Bunton, Glen Marley, Kenny Lethcoe, Larry Peters and Johnny Holder. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Bunton, Don Wilson, Jim Troutman, John James, Bill Cline, George Greer and Donie Julian.
