Henline-Hughes Funeral Home
Mattie Jane Ayers, age 91, passed away Tuesday, May 27 2008, surrounded by her 
family at her home in Tuckaseegee, North Carolina.

She was a former resident of the Roan Valley Community in Bakersville, NC. 
She was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and was a homemaker.  She 
was the daughter of the late Fonzer and Fannie McKinney Ellis.  She was a 
Founder, Teacher, and a lifelong member of the Roan Valley Baptist Church, 
County Registrar for the Little Rock Creek Township, Assisted in Census for 
Little Rock Creek, a member of the Mitchell County Homemakers Association, and 
she loved gardening and planting dahlias. 

Survivors include; son, Wayne Ayers and wife Joan of Johnson City, Tennessee, 
daughter Joan Beutell and husband Thomas of Tuckaseegee, North Carolina, four 
grandchildren, Steve and John Ayers, Thomas Beutell, Renee Campbell, seven 
great grandchildren, Johnathon, Austin, and Eli Ayers, TK and Zach Beutell, 
Barry and Emma Campbell. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Marhsall Ayers, two brothers, Gordon 
and Lewis Young, three sisters, Beatrice, Ethel, and Opal. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29th from 7-9 p.m. at Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, North Carolina.  Funeral services will be 
held on Friday, May 30th at 11 a.m. at the Roan Valley Baptist Church with 
Roger Hilemon and Adam Brewer officiating the service.  Interment will follow 
in the Ayers Cemetery (Roan Valley).

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Roan Valley Baptist Church 
5632 NC 261 Bakersville North Carolina 28705.
