MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Boyd Adkins, 20 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤¤---- GREEN MOUNTAIN - Boyd Adkins, 74, of Byrd Creek Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at his home. He was the son of the late Wilce and Lula Miller Adkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Reba Whitson. He was a member of Zion Upper Pigeon Roost Freewill Baptist Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he was also a member and past chief of Huntdale Fire and Rescue and the Emmit L. Randolph D.A.V. He had been a mechanic for Gouge Trucking. Survivors include his wife, Flora Barnett Adkins of the home; three sons, Steve and Darrell Adkins, both of Green Mountain, and Rick Adkins of Burnsville; one daughter, Kay Gouge of Greenville, TN; three brothers, Glenn Adkins of Burnsville, and Dwight and Roger Adkins, both of Charlotte; four sisters, Goldie Williams and Jessie Hedrick, both of Burnsville, Lena Bailey of Delaware, and Sharon Nelson of Jonesborough, TN; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Henline- Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Marvin Silver, John Stockton and Clyde Thompson officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday in Byrd Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour.
