MARSHALL AYERS
BAKERSVILLE – Marshall Ayers, 88, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in Tuckasegee, 
NC. He was the son of the late Alfonzer and Lucy Byrd Ayers. He was a member 
of Roan Valley Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. In addition to his 
parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife Mattie Ellis Ayers of Tuckasegee; a daughter, 
Joan Beutell of Tuckasgee; a son Wayne Ayers of Johnston City, TN; four 
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at Roan Valley Baptist Church. Revs. 
Roger Hoilman, Jerry Keasling, and Dr. Jim Ayers officiated. The family 
received friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in 
Bakersville. Burial followed in Roan Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be sent 
to Roan Valley Baptist Church, c/o Kay Perkins, Glen Ayre Rd., Bakersville, 
NC 28705.
