DORTHY RIDDLE BAILEY 

SPRUCE PINE - Dorthy Riddle Bailey, 85, of the Grassy Creek community, died 
Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Otis and 
Martha Jones Riddle, and wife of the late Robert Bailey Sr. She was also 
preceded in death by a son, Bill Bailey; three brothers; and seven sisters. 
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and a member and Worthy Patron of 
The Order of the Eastern Star, Spruce Pine Chapter #27. A homemaker, she 
retired from Buck Stove.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Carswell and Margaret Shuford, both 
of Spruce Pine, and Martha Bailey of Charlotte; a son, Robert Lee Bailey of 
Spruce Pine; a brother, Ed Riddle of Spruce Pine; eight grandchildren; and 20 
great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Baptist Church. The 
Revs. Donald Davis, David Troutman and Steve Williams officiated. Burial 
followed in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6-
8 p.m. Saturday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Memorial donations may be 
made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
