JOYCE MARIE CHILDERS BAKER 

BAKERSVILLE - Joyce Marie Childers Baker, 78, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 
Britthaven of Morganton. She was the daughter of the late Adam and Pearl 
Forbes Childers, and wife of the late Lane Baker. She was also preceded in 
death by a brother, J.D. Childers; and a sister, Lorene Barnett. She was a 
member of First Apostolic Church of Morganton.

Survivors include three sons, Bishop Alvin Baker of Morganton, Rev. Tony Baker 
of New Albany, Miss., and Rev. Tommy Baker of Winder, Ga; two daughters, Kathy 
Benge of Valdese, and Sharon McCracken of Connelly Spring; two brothers, 
Howard Childers of Morganton and Ray Childers of Bakersville; eight 
grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in 
Bakersville. Rev. Edward Davis of Johnson City, Tenn. officiated. Burial 
followed in Gouge Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the 
service hour at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to First 
Apostolic Church, 325 Drexel Road, Morganton, N.C. 28655.
