He was the son of the late Don and Bertha Barnett. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bradley Barnett and Charley Abrams; and a sister, Ruby Gutherie. Eight years of Wilber's life was spent in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He was retired from Baxter Laboratories in Marion. He attended many churches in western North Carolina, and upon request, would sing solo old songs of inspiration. Throughout his life, he sang with many different groups and made several recordings. He made appearances on radio and television on occasion, and had sung with Bill Monroe and Stella Parton. Survivors include three sisters, Francis Tipton of Johnson City, Tenn., Betty Mady of Erwin, Tenn., and Hazel Miller of Pigeon Roost; and several other relatives. Funeral services were held at 7 p. m. Tuesday in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Revs. Marvin Miller and Jerry Barnett officiated. Burial was in the Bennett Family Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 p. m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.
