MACK BENNETT 

GREEN MOUNTAIN - Mack Bennett, 98, of Highway 197N, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 
at Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late James and Mary Jane 
Gouge Bennett, and husband of the late Elizabeth Broyles Bennett. He was also 
preceded in death by four brothers; and eight sisters. He was a retired 
machine operator with CSX Railroad and attended Red Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Bennett of Erwin, Tenn., and Louise 
Slagle of Bakersville; two sons, Ronald Bennett of Green Mountain, and Vernon 
Bennett of Newdale; one sister, Minnie Lucas of Rising Sun, Md.; seven 
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home in Bakersville. The Revs. Randy Wise, Joe Brown and Mike Brazelle 
officiated. Burial was at 1 p.m. Monday in Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. The 
family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour Sunday at the 
funeral home.
