REV. JAMES R. BURLESON 

WILLIAMSON - Rev. James R. Burleson, 83, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005 at Spalding 
Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Jesse and Venie Grindstaff 
Burleson, and husband of the late Leona McGaha Burleson. He was also preceded 
in death by a son, Rev. Fred Burleson, and a daughter, Kay Russell. He was a 
retired Baptist minister, and then interned at many churches and worked with 
Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at 
Milner and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Swatts Stephens Burleson of the home; a 
brother, Frank Burleson of Bakersville; sisters, Elberta Buchanan of 
Bakersville, and Edith Wyke and Mary Hughes, both of Burnsville; three 
stepchildren; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces 
and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Conner-Westury 
Funeral Home. Revs. Jim Stalling and John Dahlman officiated. Graveside 
services were in Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jearl Fordham 
officiating. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral 
home. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 842, 
Griffin, GA 30224.
