IRENE JONES BUCHANAN 

HICKORY - Irene Jones Buchanan, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at Palliative 
Care and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born in Mitchell County, she was the 
daughter of the late Russell and Ida McKinney Jones. She was a member of 
Calvary Baptist Church and worked for Super K-Mart and Pic-N-Pay Shoes.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Gay of Hickory; two sons, David R. 
Buchanan of Connelly Springs, and Bobby Buchanan of Bakersville; five 
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church. The 
Revs. Bert Dixon and Cass Buchanan officiated. Graveside services were held at 
2:30 p.m. in Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Ledger. The family received 
friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorial donations 
may be made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, Inc., 
3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
