GEORGE BUCHANAN 

SPRUCE PINE - George Carter Buchanan, 80, of English Street, died Thursday, 
April 20, 2006 at his home. He was the son of the late Will and Vina Sullins 
Buchanan, and husband of the late Janette Warren Buchanan. He was also preceded 
in death by two sons, Eddie and Buddy Buchanan; two brothers, Brown and Harold 
Buchanan; and a sister, Bessie Murdock. A gospel music singer, he was a member 
of Altapass Baptist Church and was active with the Altapass Christian School. 
He was a volunteer at the Brian Center of Spruce Pine and a member of the 
Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Blankenship of Spruce Pine, and Joyce 
Pusey of Kernersville; two sisters, Ilene Sparks of Spruce Pine, and Gladys 
Duncan of Bakersville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel 
of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Rev. Steve Sisk officiated. Burial was in 
Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. 
until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home.
