FRANCIS LILLIAN BUCHANAN 

NEWLAND - Francis Lillian Buchanan, 74, died on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 in her 
son's residence. She was the daughter of the late Millie Atkins, and wife of 
the late Leon Buchanan. She worked as a florist for Vaughan's Nursery and was a 
member of the Midway Holiness Church.

Survivors include her son, James Hicks of Newland; brothers John Holtsclaw of 
Roan Mtn., TN., Wesley and Howard Holtsclaw both of Elizabethton, TN., and Bud 
Holtsclaw of Cranberry; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-
Sturdivant Funeral Home. Rev. Brent Price officiated. Burial followed in the 
Cane Creek Cemetery in Bakersville. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. 
Thursday at the funeral home.
