MERLE WOODY BUCHANAN 

HICKORY - Merle Marie Woody Buchanan, 84, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006 at 
Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. A native of Mitchell 
County, she was the daughter of the late Wyatt and Loucreta Wise Woody. She 
was also preceded in death by two infant sons; and four brothers, Oakley, Roe, 
Arthur, and Lynn Woody. She was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church and a 
retired secretary for K-Mar Furniture.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Buchanan, of the home; two sons, Eugene 
and Allen Buchanan, both of Hickory; two brothers, Ted Woody of Bakersville 
and Fred Woody of Hildebran; three sisters, Pearl Pittman of Hickory, Betty 
Buchanan of Charlotte, and Beulah Walton of Fort Worth, Texas; five 
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren; and 
several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Springs Road Baptist Church. 
Rev. Arthur Yount officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family 
received friends from 1:45-2:45 p.m. at the church. Memorial donations may be 
made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson 
road, Newton, NC 28658; or Springs Road Baptist Church, 3580 Spring Road NE, 
Hickory, NC 28601. Hickory Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
