Born in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late C.L. and Annie Biggerstaff Franklin, and wife of the late Millard E. Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Buchanan. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church and was known for her doll making, quilt making and crocheting. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Fisher of Walhalla, S.C.; two sons, Jim Buchanan and Dr. John Buchanan; one sister, Barbara Jenkins; two brothers, Rev. Dr. John Franklin, and C.L. Franklin; nine grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Burial followed in Cane Creek Church Cemetery in Bakersville. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home.
