Born in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Willie Yates Buchanan and Florence Elizabeth Blackburn Buchanan. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and an automotive detailer at Visual Perfection. He was a member of Walker Road Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and sang in the church choir. Survivors include his wife, Louise Miller Buchanan of the home; sons, Johnny Buchanan and Van Buchanan, both of Morganton; three grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walker Road Baptist Church. Burl Sain and the Rev. Rocky Branch officiated. Burial followed in Bear Creek Cemetery in Bakersville. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
