HOWARD LEE BURNETTE 
 
SPRUCE PINE - Howard Lee Burnette, 73, of Burnette Lane, died Friday, Nov. 30, 
2007. He was the son of the late Plato and Mamie Self Burnette. He was also 
preceded in death by a brother, James Plato Burnette; and two sisters, Wanda 
Kay Burnette and Mabel Williams. He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School 
superintendent at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran 
and a supervisor at American Thread for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Buchanan Burnette of the home; a son, 
Gregory Lee Burnette of Little Switzerland; a daughter, Christine Shepard of 
Burnsville; one brother, Johnny Ernest Burnette of Marion; and one 
granddaughter. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. 
Revs. Vernon Buchanan and Royce Ball officiated. Burial followed in Burnette 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour 
Sunday at the church. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville assisted the 
family.
