EDWARD BALLEW JR.
SPRUCE PINE – Edward Ballew, of the Grassy Creek community, died Tuesday, 
June 25, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was the son of 
the late Edward and Elizabeth McKinney Ballew Jr. He was a member of Grassy 
Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, member of the finance 
committee, and member of the scholarship committee. He was CEO of Mitchell 
Savings and Loan, retiring with 52 years of service. He was also on the N.C. 
Savings and Loan Commission and a member of the Vesper Lodge #554 A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife, Mary McKinney Ballew of the home; one daughter, 
Suzanne Russell of Huntington Beach, CA; two sons, Steve Ballew of Conroe, 
TX and John Ballew of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and three great 
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at Grassy Creek Baptist Church. 
Rev. Matthew Mills officiated. Burial was in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. 
The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church.

Path-John Cook, 125 Hospital Drive, P.O. Box Drawer 9, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. 
Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
