Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Sam and Julie Ball Banks. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Flora Ingram, Della Wilson, Bonnie Wheeler and Pearl Banks; and three brothers, Ernest, Glenn and Ed Banks. He ran a sawmill and was a self-employed farmer. Survivors include his sister, Louetta Banks Mosley of Bakersville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Dallas Cook officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday in L.G. Gouge Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.
