MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Mae Whitson Barnett, 13 May 2004

CHUCKY, TN - Mae W. Barnett, 72, formerly of Mitchell County, died 
Thursday, May 13, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Calvin and 
Nerva Whitson, and wife of the late Norman Barnett. She was also 
preceded in death by a son, Bobby Dean Barnett; a sister, Alma Whitson; 
and three brothers, Cas, Starlin and Farrell Whitson. She was a member 
of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Washington 
County Schools Food Service after 28 years.

Survivors include one son, Billy Gene Barnett of Chucky, TN; three sisters, 
Mary Ray of Unicoi, TN, Shirley Hughes of Bakersville, and Darlena Miller 
of Johnson City; three brothers, Charles Whitson of Johnson City; Lee 
Whitson and her twin brother, Ray Whitson, both of Green Mountain; one 
granddaughter; one grandson; four great grandchildren; and several nieces 
and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Morris-Baker 
Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Rev. Paul Crowe officiated. Graveside 
services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitson-Garland Cemetery on Beans 
Creek, officiated by Rev. Roger Laws. The family received friends from 6 
p.m. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations 
may be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, 
Johnson City, TN 37604.
