BUCHANAN GREENVILLE – John E. Buchanan, Sr. (Santa Claus), 76, died October 4, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital. A member of Overbrook Baptist Church, he was a rate clerk for ET and WNC Transportation, a professor at Greenville Technical College and a member of Teamster's Local #28. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran and served as Santa Clause for 15 years throughout the Greenville area. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Byrd Buchanan of the home; a daughter, Pat Wet of Simpsonville, SC; a son, J.E. Buchanan, Jr. of Pelzer, SC; a sister, Elberta Wing of Micaville; three brothers, Stewart Buchanan and Lowell Buchanan of Mitchell County, and Sherwin Buchanan of the Bandana community; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories. The family received friends Friday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
