FRED J. BUCHANAN

SPRUCE PINE – Fred J. Buchanan, 86, of the Grassy Creek community, died 
Tuesday, November 6, 2001 in a Spruce Pine rest home. He was the son of the 
late Wallace and Carrie Elliott Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by a 
daughter, Linda Greene, and a son, Roger Buchanan. He was a member of Grassy 
Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Buchanan; brother, Leonard Buchanan of 
Marion; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews. 
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce pine. Revs. Dallas Renfro and B.G. 
McMahan officiated. Burial followed in Grassy Creek Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
