MARVIN "SONNY" BUCHANAN
SPRUCE PINE - Marvin "Sonny" Buchanan, 68, of Hattie Williams Road, 
died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002. He was the son of the late Earl and 
Burnice Weathermann Buchanan, and husband of the late Betty Jean 
Plemmons Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Harry 
and Buck Buchanan, and a sister, Louise Buchanan. A U.S. Navy veteran, 
he worked with the Forest Service, the Mitchell County Sheriff's 
Department, and owned his own garage. He volunteered with Radio Patrol, 
Grassy Creek Fire Department and EMS and was a member of Grassy Creek 
Baptist Church.
Survivors include
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Greg Hollifield, 
R.M. Cassity and Sam Dale officiated. Burial was in Yellow Mountain 
Cemetery. The family received friends two hours prior to the service.
