ERNEST DAVID BUCHANAN

BAKERSVILLE - Ernest David Buchanan, 80, of Stewart Road, died Thursday, 
Jan. 23, 2003 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of the 
late Clifton and Mae Early Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by 
two sisters, Lela Buchanan andd Kathleen Pitman; and a brother, Cecil 
Buchanan. He was a member and Sunday School teacher at Bear Creek Baptist
Church. He was also a member of Vesper Lodge 554 AF&AM, and retired owner 
of Sky C Auto Sales.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hollifield Buchanan of the home; daughters, 
Brenda McClellan, Shirley Smith and Nancy Smith, all of Spruce Pine, and 
Jo Ellen Brewer of Lenoir; a son, David Buchanan of Spruce Pine; sisters, 
Margaret Masters of Bakersville, Ida Schultz of Lenoir, and Veda Buchanan 
of Hickory; a brother, Chester Buchanan of Taylorsville; 13 grandchildren; 
eight great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 
Revs. Chris Rathbone, Darren Waldroup and Ralph Buchanan officiated. Burial 
was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 
the service hour at the church Saturday. Memorial donations may be made to 
Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Webb Funeral 
Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
