MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Emma Lee Sparks Buchanan, 20 Feb 2004

BAKERSVILLE - Emma Lee Sparks Buchanan, 80, of Bear Creek Road, died 
Feb. 20, 2004 at Brian Center Heathcare in Spruce Pine. She was the 
daughter of the late Merritt and Elizabeth Miller Sparks. She was also 
preceded in death by three brothers, and four sisters. She was a member 
of Bear Creek Baptist Church and owner of Emma Lee's Beauty Salon.

Survivors include her husband, Fate Buchanan of the home; sons, Randy 
Buchanan of Spruce Pine, and Barry Buchanan of Mooresville; a sister, 
Vessie Willis of Bakersville; a brother, Merritt Sparks Jr. of Raleigh; 
and five grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 
Revs. Howard Buchanan, Larry Greene and Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial 
followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. 
until the service hour Sunday at the church. Memorial donations may be 
made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
