CLARA MOODY BENFIELD 

PLUMTREE – Clara Moody Benfield, 83, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in a Linville 
hospital. She was the daughter of the late Hardy and Lily Moody, and wife of 
the late Andy Benfield. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nora 
Benfield; and three sons, Donald, James and George Benfield. She was a member 
of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. 
Survivors include her daughters, Martha, Dora and Hazel Calloway, all of 
Newland, Myrtle Burleson of Newland, Pansy Scarlett of Crossnore, Frances 
Shehan of Nebo, and Katie Benfield of Plumtree; a brother, Arie Moody of 
Dysartsville; 53 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and one great great 
grandchild. 
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Powdermill Baptist Church. 
Revs. Harold Dellinger and roland McClellan officiated. Burial was at 10 a.m. 
Friday in Yellow Mountain Cemtery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. 
until the service hour at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in 
charge of arrangements.
