She was the daughter of the late Warfield and Mamie Phillips Hughes. She was also preceded in death by one son, Glenn Nathaniel Blevins Jr. A member of First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, she taught eighth grade at Deyton Elementary School, was a member of the Spruce Pine Women’s Club, helped organize Hospice of Mitchell County, and was an active organizer for Special Olympics. Survivors include her husband, Glenn N. Blevins; three daughters, Patricia Webster of Chapel Hill, Mamie Alice Blevins of Monroe, and Mary Ethel Blevins of Mebane; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine. Revs. David Vess, Victor Greene and R.M. Cassity officiated. Burial followed in Green Young Cemetery. The family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O.
