RUTH AUTREY BURLESON 

SPRUCE PINE - Ruth Autrey Burleson, 88, a resident at the Brian 
Center, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Spruce Pine Community 
Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Joshua and China Willis 
Autrey, and wife of the late James C. Burleson Sr. She was also 
preceded in death by five brothers. She was a member of Beaver 
Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Celia Sharar of Manassas, VA, and 
Joyce Shindler of Reistertown, MD; a son, James C. Burleson Jr. of 
Huntersville; a sister, Helen Pitman of Henderson; four grandchildren; 
and five great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at Henline-Hughes Funeral 
Home in Bakersville. Rev. Larry Greene officiated. Burial followed 
in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 
p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Memorial donations 
may be made to the Garden of Memories at Brian Center, c/o Spruce Pine 
Lions Club, 101 Laurel Ridge Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777, or Hospice 
of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
