ROBERT T CURTIS
Spruce Pine - Robert T Curtis, age 85, of Highland Avenue, died Wednesday, 
March 20, 1996 in a Spruce Pine Hospital.  A native of Rome, GA, he was the 
son of the late Rev. J.J. and Mary Johnson Curtis.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1928-1930, and was stationed in the Hawaiian 
Islands as a coastal defense artilleryman.  After military service, he resided 
in San Francisco, Calif. and studied at the Pace Institute of Business and 
Accounting.
He was the secretary-treasurer with Brad Ragan, Inc. for 17 years.  A member 
of the Mountaineer Shrine Club, he was a member, Past Master and District 
Deputy Grand Master of Vesper Lodge #554 AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife Zella Riddle Curtis; son and daughter-in-law, Gary 
and Susan Curtis of Spruce Pine; and two granddaughters.
Services were held March 23, at First Baptist Church, where he was a member.  
The Revs. Bob Ballance and R.M. Cassity officiated.  Entombment was in the 
Spruce Pine Mausoleum Masonic grave-side rites were conducted by Vesper Lodge 
#554 AF & AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church 
Building Fund, 101 Tappan Street, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 or Shriners Hospitals, 
c/o Max Gouge, 442 Summit Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
