MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Rev. Dr. John M. Cann, 14 Jul 2002 ----¤¤¤---- JOHN MCKINNEY CANN LAURENS, SC - Rev. Dr. John M. Cann, 69, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center. Former pastor at Bakersville Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Harvey Danner and Plumer Hutchens Cann. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jane Cann Freeland. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as minister to several churches during his career. He held a bachelor's degree from Furman University, a master of divity from Southern Theological Seminary, and a doctorate of ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary. He was involved in medical research for Parkinson's disease and donated his body to medical science. Survivors include his wife, Jean Lanford Cann of the home; a son, John Mark Cann of Landrum, SC; a daughter, Jean Alison Cann of Spartanburg; a brother, Terry Danner Cann; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the residents of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center. A worship service washeld at 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurens First Presbyterian Church.
