MILDRED YOUNG CASSADY

NEWDALE ­ Mildred Young Cassady, 79, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001, in
Spruce Pine Community Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was the
daughter of the late Bis and Grace Cox Young. She was also preceded in death
by a sister, Jewell Westall; and two brothers, Howard and Warren Young. She
was a member of Newdale Presbyterian Church, where she was also a choir
member and treasurer for 30 years. She retired after 36 years of service
with Belks of Spruce Pine.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Buchanan of Bakersville; a brother,
Brant Young of Burnsville; three sisters-in-law; three grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. at Newdale Presbyterian Church. Revs.
Mike Brazell and Stanley Bennett officiated. Graveside services were held at
11 a.m. Friday in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-7
p.m. Thursday at the church. Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
