MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - L.O. "Les" Chapman, 17 Jul 2002 ----¤¤¤---- L.O. "LES" CHAPMAN LITTLE SWITZERLAND - L.O. "Les" Chapman, 80, of Charlotte and Little Switzerland, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at his home in Little Switzerland. He was the son of the late Ila E. and Elizabeth Barnes Chapman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Woollard. He was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and elder. He was a 58-year member of the James Ladd Burgess Masonic Lodge in Dallas, TX, member of the Horace Williams Philosophy Group, and served on several local and state boards. He was a four-year veteran of WWII, and after being recalled to duty in Korea, was discharged as a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth Heath Chapman; a daughter, Mary Beth Chapman; sons, Eric, Doug, Dennis, and Bruce Chapman; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Myer Park Presbyterian Church. The family received friends at the church immediately following the service.
