MYRTLE CONLEY
BAKERSVILLE – Myrtle Conley, 97, of the Lily Branch community, died Monday, 
March 4, 2002 in a Spruce Pine rest home. She was the daughter of the late 
Greene and Hettie Callahan Burleson, and wife of the late Frank Conley. She 
was also preceded in death by her son, John Lee Gurley, and stepsons, John and 
Jack Garland. She was a member of Lily Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include her stepdaughters, Ethel Calhoun and Emma Yelton; stepson, 
Frank Garland; a sister, Ethel McMahan of Spruce Pine; a brother, John 
Burleson of Newland; two grandsons; seven great grandchildren; 13 step 
grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lily Branch Baptist Church. 
Rev. Steve Williams officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family 
received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the church. 
Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
