DOROTHY THOMAS CROWDER
SPRUCE PINE – Dorothy Thomas Crowder, 93, of Ernest Crowder Lane, 
died Monday, July 7, 2002 at her residence. She was the daughter of 
Wilburn and Charlotte Burleson Thomas, and wife of the late Ernest 
Crowder. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Still; 
a sister, Mary Biggerstaff, and brothers, Ruben, Baxter, Fonzer and 
Clarence Thomas. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel Missionary 
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Lessie Eaton, Lela Singleton, and Lona 
Cable, all of Spruce Pine, and Lydia Banks of Nebo; sons, Lewis, Leonard 
and Lanny Crowder, all of Spruce Pine, and Lance Crowder of Mt. Holly; 
sisters, Julie McClellan, Georgia McClellan and Pansy Hise, all of Spruce 
Pine; a brother, Monroe Thomas of Spruce Pine; 23 grandchildren; 29 great 
grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Missionary Baptist 
Church. Rev. Luther Carver officiated. Burial followed in Pendley Cemetery. 
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. 
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Avery County, P.O. Box 1357, 
Newland, NC 28657. Henline-Funeral Home in Bakersville was in charge of 
arrangements.
