VELMA CARPENTER

PLUMTREE - Velma Carpenter, 74, of Pancake Road, died Thursday, 
Aug. 7, 2003 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Robert 
Lee and Lillie Hughes McKinney, and wife of the late Paul E. 
Carpenter. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mollie 
Long and Alveda Pitman, and a brother, Clayton McKinney. She was a 
member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Perez of Newland, and Tammy 
Pfaff of Charlotte; son, Paul Robert Carpenter of Marion; sisters, 
Zella Mae Greene of Marion, and Muriel King of Morganton; a brother, 
Lee McKinney of Plumtree; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff 
Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Rev. Wallace Wise and Dr. 
Edward Perez officiated. Burial was in Yellow Mountain Cemetery. The 
family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour Saturday 
at the funeral home.
