JAMES M. DALE SR. 

SPRUCE PINE - James M. Dale Sr., 86, of the Grassy Creek community, died 
Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of 
the late Fred and Agnes Washburn Dale. He was also preceded in death by a 
sister, Evelyn Stapleton Hobbs; and two brothers, Bill and Guy Dale. He was a 
WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force, serving in the 
African Theatre. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, where 
he taught Sunday School and was a deacon. He was a salesman at Smith Furniture 
Store in Marion, retiring after 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Carter Dale of the home; two sons, Jim 
Dale Jr. of Dale City, Va., and Tony Dale of Spruce Pine; one sister, Ruth 
Uphold of Spruce Pine; two brothers, Daniel Dale of St. Helen, S.C. and David 
Dale of Bakersville; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Spruce 
Pine. Burial followed in Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family received 
friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour at the church. Memorial 
donations may be made to Mitchell County Hospice, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 
28777. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the family.
