TALMADGE JOHNSON DAVIS

SPRUCE PINE - Talmadge Johnson Davis, 79, of Walnut Avenue, died 
Saturday, Jan. 12, 2003 in an Asheville hospital. He was the son of 
Edmond H. and Hattie Ellen Gurley Davis. He was also preceded in 
death by his first wife, Jewel Jones Davis. An active member of First 
Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, he was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy 
and a retired auto parts sales manager.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Thomas Davis of the home; a son, 
Frank T. Davis of Spruce Pine; sisters, Mildred Hogan of Surfside 
Beach, SC, and Doris Loudermilk of Hudson; four grandchildren; five 
great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. 
Dr. David Vess and Rev. Joi Williams officiated. Burial was in Spruce 
Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 
the service hour at the curch. Webb Funeral Home was in charge of 
arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist 
Church Building Fund, 125 Tappan Street, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
