MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Donald Duncan, 3 Dec 2004 ----¤¤¤¤---- SPRUCE PINE - Donald Duncan, 70, of Harris Heights, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Jerry and Elma Sparks Duncan. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Jack Duncan. He owned and operated Duncan Grocery and Newland Furniture and Appliance. After retiring, he worked as a salesman for Yancey Mobile Homes. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and choir member. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Phillips Duncan; a daughter, Cynthia Gibbs of Hillsborough; sisters, Anna Lee Pitman and Judy Buchanan, both of Spruce Pine, Phyllis Grindstaff and Ruth Grindstaff, both of Bakersville, and Eloise Hall of Newton; brothers, Bill and Jerry Duncan, both of Spruce Pine, and George E. (Jim) Duncan of Waynesville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. Dr. David Vess officiated. Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday in Bear Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Sunday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
