MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - George E. "Jim" Duncan, 29 Apr 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- WAYNESVILLE - George E. "Jim" Duncan, 73, a native of Mitchell County, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at his home. He was the son of the late Jerry Duncan and Elma Sparks Duncan. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Jack, Donald, and Bill Duncan. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired senior bank executive. He was a member of several Haywood County organizations and was active in the Greater Haywood Chamber of Commerce, United Way; Kiwanis, Boosters, and Rotary Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Wiseman Duncan; a son, William Mark Duncan of Raleigh; five sisters, Anna Lee Pitman and Judy Buchanan, both of Spruce Pine, Phyllis Grindstaff and Ruth Grindstaff, both of Bakersville, Eloise Hall of Newton; one brother Jerry Duncan of Spruce Pine, two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Drs. Robert Prince and Richard Maples officiated. Burial was at 1 p.m. Monday in Bear Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-3:45 p.m. Sunday at the church.
