FLETCHER GARLAND 
BAKERSVILLE - Fletcher Garland, 78, of Fork Mountain Road, died Thursday, Feb. 
2, 2006. He was the son of the late Fate and Mary Garland. He was also preceded 
in death by a brother, Lee Garland, and a sister, Thelma Hoilman. He was self-
employed in the lumber business and was a member of Fork Mountain Fire and 
Rescue. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a 
deacon and Sunday School superintendent. He was also involved in construction 
of the church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Garland of the home; a daughter, Sara 
Allen of Boca Raton, FL; a son, Doug Garland of Jonesborough, TN; brothers, 
Clyde Garland of Unicoi, TN, and Claude Garland of Bakersville; two 
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Ronnie Gouge, Clifford Willis and Harold 
Grindstaff officiated. Burial was at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gouge Cemetery on Fork 
Mountain Road. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour 
at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Baptist 
Church, c/o Lee Gouge, Lee Gouge Drive, Bakersville, NC 28705.
