    Vista F. Garland 


    Vista F. Garland, age 74, 225 Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, passed away 
at her residence, on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, following an extended illness. A 
native of Mitchell County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Robert (Bob) 
and Minnie Garland Forbes. Mrs. Garland lived most of her adult life in Ft. 
Lauderdale, Fla., and was a retired AT&T Management employee and was of the 
Christian faith. She had resided in Roan Mountain since 1990. In addition to 
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Garland, in 
May 2000, three brothers, John R., William G. and Calvin Forbes; and two 
sisters, Lydia F. Garland and Ruth Forbes. 


    Mrs. Garland is survived by an adopted son, Mark Forbes and his wife, 
Shannon, of Bakersville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Preston and Jonathan Forbes, 
both of Bakersville, N.C.; and two brothers, Robert Forbes, Hickory, N.C., and 
Frank Forbes, Lynchburg, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 


    A graveside service for Mrs. Garland will be conducted at 10 a.m. on 
Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Roselawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Darrell Holly 
officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 
2008, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. Those who wish to attend the 
graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. on Monday.
