OSCAR GARLAND 

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN - Oscar Garland, 87, of Hyder Road, died Tuesday, June 
19, 2007 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was the 
son of the late Wesley and Rosa Green Garland, and husband of the late Lydia 
Forbes Garland. He was also preceded in death by a son, Duane Wesley Garland; 
two sisters, Bonnie Burleson and Nettie Hughes; and two brothers, Merritt and 
Stokes Garland. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired millwright carpenter. 
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Garland of dublin, Va., and Bob Garland of 
Houston, Texas; one brother, Ray Garland; and four grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at noon Friday in the chapel of Morris Baker 
Funeral Home. Donald L. Page officiated. Burial followed in Roselawn Memory 
Gardens. The family received friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour 
Friday at the funeral home. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville 
assisted the family.
