GRACE BELLE GARLAND 

WESTMINSTER, MD - Grace Belle Garland, 97, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at the 
home of her daughter. Born in the Red Hill community, she was the daughter of 
the late Robert and Blanche Tipton, and wife of the late Richard Garland. She 
was also preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Frock; a son, Hazen Garland; a 
brother, Ray Tipton; and three sisters, Flaude Street, Mabel Jones and Pearl 
Howell. She was a member of Church of the Open Door and the Millers Ladies Aid 
Society. Known for her needlework and quilting, she also loved to garden.

Survivors include two daughters, Loray Hawn of Westminster, and Mary Jean 
Werner of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Roger Garland of Fountain Valley, Calif.; a 
sister, Doris Tipton of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Robert Tipton of 
Asheville; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-
grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Open Door in 
Westminster. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg, Md. The 
family received friends from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eckhardt 
Funeral Chapel in Manchester, Md. Memorial donations may be made to Wycliffe 
Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628211, Orlando, FL 32862-8211.
