HELEN VIRGINIA GARLAND 

SPRUCE PINE - Helen Virginia Garland, 78, of Feldspar Street, died Saturday, 
Sept. 8, 2007 at Brian Center Healthcare in Spruce Pine. She was the daughter 
of the late Ross and Bertha Harding Garland. She was also preceded in death by 
four brothers, Carl, Claude, Hugh and Paul Garland. She was a retired cook who 
worked in several local restaurants, including Young's Restaurant in Spruce 
Pine. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sisters, Kathleen Pritchard of Spruce Pine, Joan McGee 
of Hickory, Jean Thomas of Morganton, and Peggy Forbes of Bakersville; and 
several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home in Bakersville. The Revs. David Troutman, Greg Hollifield and 
Donald Davis officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Johnson Memorial 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour 
Monday at the funeral home.
