RUBY DUNCAN GARLAND 

BAKERSVILLE - Ruby Duncan Garland, 83, of the Bear Creek community, died 
Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 in Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. She 
was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Bessie Sparks Duncan. She was also 
preceded in death by a brother, Robert Duncan Jr.; and four sisters, Lillian 
Buchanan, Lennie Peachy, Grace Bolles, and Geneva Putman. She was a member of 
Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Art Garland of the home; and several nieces and 
nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. The Rev. Chris Rathbone 
officiated. Burial was in Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour Saturday at the funeral 
home.
