RAY CLAUDE GREENE 
 
BAKERSVILLE - Ray Claude Greene, 83, of Walnut Cove, died Monday, March 3, 
2008 at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville. Formerly of Bakersville, he was 
the son of the late Curtis Robert and Evelyn Webb Greene. He was also preceded 
in death by a daughter, Kathy Faye Greene; a sister, Mildred Upton; and a 
brother, Charles Greene. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a 
member of Willow Oak Baptist Church in Walnut Cove. Prior to leaving 
Bakersville, he was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a 
deacon for many years, as well as other church offices.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Greene of the home; a daughter, Linda Willis 
of Walnut Cove; a sister, Pauline Whisnant of Mithalothian, Texas; and one 
granddaughter. 

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. The Rev. Clifford Willis 
officiated. Burial was in Bakersville Cemetery. The family received friends 
from 1 p.m. until the service hour Thursday at the funeral home.
