MAE BELLE GREENE 

SPRUCE PINE - Mae Belle Greene, 84, died Friday, March 9, 2007 in Spruce Pine 
Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late David and Grace Willis 
Riddle, and wife of the late Paul Greene. She was also preceded in death by a 
grandson, James H. Valentine; a great grandson, William Evatt; three brothers, 
Joseph Brown Riddle, and Dewitt and Roy E. Riddle; and a sister, Ada Higgins. 
She was a writer and poet for over 70 years. She won the Gold Poet Award and 
had several poems and songs printed in the Mitchell News-Journal. She was a 
member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Paul Terry Greene of Dodson; three daughters, Phyllis 
Turbyfill of Greensboro, Connie Valentine of Crosby, Tenn., and Linda Cain of 
Bakersville; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. 
The Revs. David Philbeck and Ronnie Gouge officiated. Burial followed in the 
church cemetery. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until the service 
hour Sunday at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the 
family.
