CLAUDE WILLIAM GREENE 

SPRUCE PINE - Claude "C.W." William Greene, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at 
the Brian Center in Spruce Pine. He was the son of the late Oscar and Carrie 
Parsons Greene. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Morgan and 
Stella Jarrett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a Shriner of the Oasis 
Temple, past president and charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Spruce Pine, 
recipient of the Hyatt Award, and was retired from the Spruce Pine Fire 
Department. He was co-owner of Aldridge and Greene Ford Motor Co., as well as 
in Grassy Creek Golf and Country Club. He began Greene Chevrolet and 
Oldsmobile, and later developed G&H Crushing and Mayland Stone. He had also 
owned an Esso service station, a grocery store and a bowling alley.

Survivors include his wife, Nyla Greene of the home; two daughters, Susie 
Price of Marion, and Sheila Robinson of Spruce Pine; a son, Douglas Greene of 
Spruce Pine; a brother, Ted Greene of Spruce Pine; six grandchildren; and two 
great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of 
Spruce Pine. The Rev. Bill Sweetser officiated. Entombment was Thursday in the 
Spruce Pine Mausoleum. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the 
service hour Wednesday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Spruce 
Pine Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 1274, Bakersville, NC 28705. Webb Funeral Home in 
Spruce Pine assisted the family.
